Electronics are at the heart
of intelligent systems
Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) are central to the design and realization of electronics and smart connected products, and virtually every electronic product is constructed with one or more PCBs.
PCBs support and electrically-connect components using conductive tracks, pads and other features. PCBs are formed by laminating together layers of copper sheets, with each layer having thousands of intricate copper traces, and serve as the carrier of all electronic components, microchips, FPGAs, electromechanical parts and embedded software.
The design of PCBs for ever-more complex devices requires sophisticated electronic design automation software. Current engineering tools, which are based on an outdated notion of toolchains, must become multi-disciplinary and communicate natively at the same level of abstraction.
