This happens when the installation software is restricted from creating the registry keys that are needed. First, turn off any virus/spam protection software. Try running the installer when logged on to the computer with administrative permissions. Also try right-clicking on the executable and using "Run as administrator".
Here are all the folders and Registry Keys to which your computer account will need to have access. If you are not an administrator of your computer, you can pass this information on to IT support personnel:
If a user does not have admin rights on a computer it is possible that Altium Designer may not run correctly.
For this purpose you can ask your IT department to have full access(read/write) of below
mentioned paths.
Note: Hidden folders must be visible before these steps.
For Microsoft Windows 10 to 7
Registry:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Altium
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder\Start
Menu\Programs\Altium
- HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-149779583-799757147-1568867282-45119\Software\Altium (Your ID differs
from this. It is important that the extended ID contains the correct key path).
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altium (32 bit system).
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Altium (64 bit system)
Paths:
- C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Altium
- C:\Users\<WIN-LOGINNAME>\AppData\Local\Altium
- C:\users\<WIN-LOGINNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Altium
- C:\ProgramData\Altium
- C:\Program Files(x86 - for AD17 & older)\Altium\AD(version)
The last one is the default installation folder for Altium Designer. If you have defined your own installation folder you should consider it.
